今日は1７年前にソビエト連邦が解体されロシア共和国が独立した日ですが、ソビエトからロシアになっても北方領土はいまだ返還されずシベリア抑留に対する謝罪もありません。
17 years ago on December 26th 1993, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republicscollapsed, and the Russian Federation was established. Regardless of this massive change, the Kuril Island dispute (also known as the Northern Territory dispute in Japan) remains unsolved,nor have there been any form of apology expressions regarding the Japanese detainees at the Siberian labor camp.
奇しくも12月26日は1956年 にシベリア抑留からの引き揚げ船である興安丸最後の一便が舞鶴港に入港した日でもあります。
Coincidentally, the same day in 1956 was the last day of service for the Kouan-maru. This was the ship that transported Japanese war prisoners and internees back to Maizuru,near Kyoto, Japan. These internees were once captured by the Soviet Union for forced labor inSiberia, as mentioned above.
スターリンが抑留命令を出した8月23日をシベリア抑留記念日とするという考えもありますが、個人的には過酷なシベリアでの抑留を経て、生存した最後の日本人が本土に引き上げてこれたこの日を政府にはシベリア抑留追憶記念日として制定して頂きたく思っています。
Some consider the memorial day for Japanese war prisoners in the SovietUnion is August 23rd. Joseph Stalin mandated Japanese prisoners to Siberia under theimmediately after World War II ended on August 23rd, 1945. I personally hope for the Japanese Government to consider December 26th as a national day in remembrance of those Japanese who suffered in Siberiaafter World War II.
